Viking Ocean and Viking Expedition, along with Crystal Cruises, are ranked as the cleanest cruise lines in U.S. waters, according to a March 2026 study based on CDC surprise sanitation inspections. The fleets earned an average cleanliness score of 99 out of 100.

Four key features of the cleanest cruise lines are:

1. Stringent Sanitation Protocols: Daily deep cleaning of cabins and public areas, with high-touch surface disinfection multiple times per day.

2. Advanced Air Technology: Utilization of UV-C light to sanitize air in public spaces, designed to kill 99% of airborne viruses and bacteria.

3. Food Safety Standards: Rigid, continuous sanitation in galleys, strict monitoring of food temperatures, and rapid, frequent cleaning of buffet areas.

4. Technology-Driven Hygiene: Increased use of sensor-operated public doors and automated handwashing stations, especially near dining areas.
