The Yale Prison Education Initiative (YPEI) is a program at Dwight Hall (Yale’s Center for Public Service and Social Justice) that offers rigorous, credit-bearing liberal arts courses to incarcerated students in Connecticut. Founded in 2016, it gives incarcerated students the opportunity to earn associate and bachelor's degrees.
YPEI provides ongoing support, including academic advising, career counseling, and job search assistance to formerly incarcerated students. The program founder, Yale alumna Zelda Roland (BA'08, PhD'16), currently serves as the Director of the University of New Haven’s Prison Education Program.
