Connecticut Undue Medical Debt Program

Image

Connecticut is actively tackling undue medical debt through an ongoing partnership with the national nonprofit Undue Medical Debt. The state-funded program negotiates with hospitals and collection agencies to purchase bundled debt in bulk for pennies on the dollar, erasing it completely for qualifying residents.

You are eligible if you meet either of the following criteria:

  1. Your household income is at or below 400% of the federal poverty level.
  2. Your past-due medical debt equals 5% or more of your annual income.

You do not need to apply for this relief, as it automatically identifies those who are qualifying residents.
