An Innovative Hair-Braiding Robot

Harvard University alumni Yinka Ogunbiyi and David Afolabi founded HaloBraid, a robotic assistant designed to help professional stylists after they manually begin the box braid, then feed the hair into the HaloBraid device, which automatically weaves the remainder of the braid using machine learning.

The primary benefits of using the system are reduced strain and potential arthritis risk for stylists, as well as a significantly faster and less painful experience for clients. The startup raised a $7 million seed round led by Alexis Ohanian's venture firm, Seven Seven Six.
