The Girl’s Future Firefighter Camp is a hands-on, free training program for girls ages 13 to 18. Founded by Hamden Fire Chief Shelly Carter, the camp hosts 3-day weekend sessions and full-week summer camps across Connecticut.
The activities and curriculum help girls gain firsthand experience in the fire service through drills such as:
Emergency Medical Services (EMS): Basic first aid and emergency medical procedures.
Firefighting Tactics: Learning how to handle equipment, wear turnout gear, and use fire apparatus.
Fire Investigation: Methods used to identify and investigate the origins of a fire safely.
