This construction project is transforming the network, focusing on increasing train speeds and introducing modern passenger fleets. It is part of the broader TIME FOR CT program, a multi-phase effort to modernize the busiest commuter rail line in the country and support speeds up to 90 mph (increased from 70 mph).
Crews are installing new overhead catenary wire structures, adding rail yard turnouts, and completely replacing the Longbrook Avenue Bridge in Stratford and the WALK Bridge in Norwalk. Metro-North New Haven Line weekend service will face major changes and reduced capacity on five upcoming weekends from September 12 through November 1, 2026, and information on planned service changes is here.
