The student-led walkouts began in mid-September 2026. State schools in Paris and its surrounding suburbs face severe degradation and underinvestment due to shrinking public infrastructure budgets, rising pension costs, and fragmented local responsibilities.
French officials recently made their first concessions, which include 3,000 additional Supply Teachers and student union representatives. Protesters have largely rejected the offers as insufficient.
