On Tuesday, June 21, 2022, a group of senators released the legislative text of a plan to curb gun violence. The name of the measure is Bipartisan Safer Communities Act.
Hours after the release of the text, the plan cleared a procedural hurdle in the Senate. Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and Minority Leader Mitch Mcconnell will support the forthcoming legislation that includes language to stop illegal gun trafficking and define and increase penalties for straw purchasing.
Update- The House of Representatives passed the bipartisan gun control package today, Friday, June 24, 2022, and has sent it to President Joe Biden's desk.
