DoorDash is launching an "Emergency Food Response" to provide aid as the federal government shutdown threatens SNAP (food stamp) payments for over 40 million people. The initiative will include distributing 1 million free meals and waiving delivery fees for 300,000 grocery orders from SNAP recipients through the end of November.
This comes as states have warned that SNAP benefits may not be delivered next week due to the shutdown's impact on funding. DoorDash is donating fresh food, shelf-stable items, and household essentials from its DashMart locations to local food banks in affected communities.
