Zohran Mamdani, the newly elected mayor of New York City, was born in Uganda.

Zohran Mamdani, 34, has won New York City's race for mayor in a contest that rallied young voters and sparked debate about the future direction of the US Democratic Party. Mamdani speaks multiple languages,  and he has used several of these languages, such as Hindi, Urdu, Spanish, and Bengali, in his social media campaigns to connect with a diverse electorate in New York.
