A Wednesday afternoon fire at the Broodmoor Apartments on Mix Avenue ignited in a closet.

Burning incense left unattended caused a fire in a Hamden apartment building that left four units uninhabitable, officials said today.

Crews responded to the six-story Broadmoor Apartments on Mix Avenue shortly after noon on Wednesday, where they found a plume of smoke coming from the fifth floor, according to Hamden Fire Chief Shelly Carter. 

Firefighters located the blaze in an apartment closet and extinguished it. Crews from North Haven and Hamden's volunteer Community Emergency Response Team also responded.
