Cyclosporiasis Outbreak Update

As of mid-July 2026, the Connecticut Department of Public Health has confirmed 35 cases of cyclosporiasis statewide. This is almost double the 19 cases reported at the same time last year, and currently, Michigan has the highest number of cases. It is an intestinal infection caused by the Cyclospora parasite, and is spread through the consumption of contaminated food or water.

To prevent contamination, wash your hands with soap and water both before and after handling or preparing raw fruits and vegetables. In addition, wash all fruits and vegetables thoroughly under running water before eating, cutting, or cooking.
