Boris Johnson, the UK Prime Minister, resigned on July 7, 2022. His embroilment in a chain of scandals throughout his tenure, including allegations of his disregard for rules and revelations of illegal lockdown-breaking parties held in Downing Street, was the reason for the resignations of more than 50 ruling Conservative Party members.
Their departures make it nearly impossible for Johnson to govern. The new head of the Conservatives will become the next Prime Minister.
Candidates for the head of the party must get the support of at least eight lawmakers. Conservative Party Members nationwide will vote by mail between the two finalists, and the winner becomes Prime Minister.
