On August 6, 1945, pilots of an American B-29 bomber named Enola Gay dropped a deployed atomic bomb on Hiroshima, Japan killing thousands of people. In 1955 the Hiroshima Memorial Peace Museum, designed by Japanese architect Kenzō Tange, opened.
It educates visitors on the history of the bombing and the long-term effects of radiation on the victims. The goal is to promote peace in the hope that history will not repeat itself.
The Museum is a tranquil spot and features photography, lifelike models, artists' impressions, and more. Take a YouTube virtual tour here.
