New Merchant Code Will Track Gun Sales

The International Organization for Standardization sets rules across the financial services industry. On September 9, 2022, SRO approved a credit card categorization code to help improve the tracking of gun sales.

Gun and ammunition stores will use this new four-digit code when processing credit card transactions. It will enable financial institutions to flag large gun purchases over a short time frame or multiple purchases at different retailers.
