The CT NBS program is responsible for screening babies born in the state for treatable metabolic and genetic disorders. The three tests done on babies in the hospital are:

  • The bloodspot screen detects medical conditions that can cause problems with a baby's growth and development
  • The hearing screening
  • The pulse oximetry screen checks for serious heart problems

NBS can detect more than 60 different disorders and conditions. Read more about the program here.
