In November 2009, the UN General Assembly declared July 18 Nelson Mandela International Day in recognition of the former South African President's contribution to a worldwide culture of peace and freedom. Resolution A/RES/64/13 recognizes Mandela's dedication to the service of humanity in:
- Conflict resolution
- Fight against poverty
- Gender equality
- Promotion and protection of human rights
- Race relations
- Social justice
Everybody has the ability and responsibility to help improve the world. Mandela Day is a time to take action, and suggested ways to do something are here.
