The Flying Horses

Image

The Flying Horses Carousel, built by Charles Dare of New York Carousel Manufacturing, moved to Martha's Vineyard from New York in 1884. Originally powered by steam, the carousel began operating on electric power in 1900 and became a historic landmark in 1987.

This antique ride, housed in a big red barn at the beginning of Circuit Avenue in Oak Bluffs, features stationary horses suspended from chains and iconic brass rings. Now, the Vineyard Preservation Trust owns the Flying Horses.
