Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was a gifted student, and one of his staunchest supporters during the civil rights movement was a highly regarded gospel singer from Louisiana.

A couple of fascinating facts about Dr. King are:

• He entered Morehouse College at age 15. He graduated with a degree in sociology
• Gospel singer Mahalia Jackson was his good friend. She sparked the I Have a Dream speech at the March on Washington in 1963 by crying out: "Tell them about the dream, Martin! Tell them about the dream!"
