Tasty Ice Creams around the World

Ice Cream first appeared in Persia about 2500 years ago. Italy introduced it to the Western world in 1533. 

Today many countries have their version of ice cream. Here are five types:

1. Raspado is a Mexican version of an American snow cone.
2. Gelato is an Italian ice cream made from a custard base of milk, cream, and sugar.
3. Crème de glace is a French ice cream that contains cream and eggs.
4. Dondurma is a Turkish frozen dessert made from goat milk, sugar, and salep (pulp of a purple orchid).
5. Kakigori is a Japanese dessert made from mixed citrus syrup poured over shaved ice.

The United States is the largest ice cream producer and consumer worldwide. According to Ice Cream History, about 90 percent of American households eat it.
