Two Quinnipiac professors assume leadership roles in American Society of Radiologic Technologists
Two Quinnipiac University School of Health Sciences faculty members have been selected to serve in prominent leadership roles within the American Society of Radiologic Technologists (ASRT), helping shape the future of medical imaging education and practice nationwide.
Clinical Professors of Diagnostic Imaging, pictured from left, Alicia Giaimo of North Haven, and Bernadette Mele of Hamden serve in the ASRT House of Delegates, the organization's governing body responsible for establishing professional standards, policies and the future direction of the radiologic sciences profession.
Their appointments reflect national recognition of their expertise and leadership in diagnostic imaging and medical imaging education.
Mele represents the Magnetic Resonance (MR) Chapter and began a one-year term as its chair on July 1. Giaimo serves as delegate for the Mammography Chapter and also began a one-year term as its chair on July 1. They follow their colleague Kori Stewart of Guilford, associate professor of diagnostic imaging, who recently completed her term as chair and delegate of the Education Chapter for the ASRT.
Through their leadership in the House of Delegates, they will help guide discussions and decisions affecting radiologic technology education, workforce development, patient safety, professional practice and the integration of emerging technologies across the profession.
"The selection of two more of our faculty members to leadership positions within the ASRT reflects the caliber of expertise and commitment to service that defines Quinnipiac's diagnostic imaging program," said Trent Honda, dean of the School of Health Sciences. "Their work will help shape the future of the profession while ensuring our students benefit from faculty who are leading conversations at the national level."
The appointments also underscore the School of Health Sciences' commitment to advancing healthcare through excellence in education, innovation and professional leadership. By contributing to national policy and educational initiatives, Quinnipiac faculty help ensure future imaging professionals are prepared to meet the evolving needs of patients and the healthcare industry.
The ASRT is the nation's largest professional association for medical imaging and radiation therapy professionals, representing more than 157,000 members. Its House of Delegates serves as the organization's legislative body, establishing policies and strategic direction that influence the profession nationwide.
