Adeline Jackson Tucker

Adeline Jackson Tucker of New Haven, Connecticut passed away peacefully at Connecticut Hospice in Branford on September 1, 2025 surrounded by family. She was 88. She graduated from Wilbur Cross High School and attended Southern Connecticut State University, where she studied Biology.

Adeline was the loving mother of Karen Saltos and Renee Bahre. Her surviving relatives include identical twin sister Alene Jackson Smith, first niece Armonda Valeriano and numerous other nieces and nephews. Adeline was the daughter of Gertrude Lohman and Blyden Jackson. She was predeceased by her parents and siblings Raymond Clayton James Clayton, Jane Clayton Dansby, Blyden Jackson, as well as her daughter Renee Bahre.

The twins co-wrote the genealogy book Live, Labor, Love: The History of a Northern Family, 1700-1900, published in 2007. It informs readers of the African American roots that are buried deep in many small northern towns of Connecticut and New York.

Adeline was employed as a Lab Manager at the Yale School of Medicine for 37 years. She trained students in scientific procedures, maintained inventory and contributed to publications. She was an active member of First & Summerfield Methodist Church where she served on committees, advocated for social justice and supported newcomers to the United States. Her church friends, Drucilla Cherry and Nancy Davis, will miss her deeply.

Adeline loved to travel and visited countries in Africa, Europe and Latin America, and several states. She enjoyed dining out, eating Lays potato chips, hosting family gatherings on holidays, and shopping for home decor. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to World Central Kitchen.
